Forty Second Question of the Day.

watermagick

The card that holds this art has been my desktop background for two weeks, since it currently owns my soul.  I’m giving a prize or two for the most accurate guesses.

What do you think that card will be?

  1. *crosses fingers and hopes that HTML is enabled*

  2. *has no clue whether it is or not*

  3. Sean

I think it will be a plot twist search card for a non-ongoing plot twist.

  4. It does not appear to be.

    Ah well.

  5. Batshido

It’s a 3 cost Aquaman Legends card that lets you exhaust him to search your deck for any number of Army cards that cost a total of 2 or less and put them into your hand.

And it’s got a goofy name.

  6. Suggested names for Batshido’s card:

    1. Aquatic Allies
    2. Psionic Summons
    3. PONY!

  7. Spud wins one of the prizes for PONY! Not accurate, but hilarious.

  8. dschneider

    Aquaman, Half-Atlantean
    3 cost, 4/4

When Aquaman comes into play, characters you control with cost 2 or less cannot be stunned while attacking this turn.

(Alternate name: Aquaman, Chicken of the Sea)

  9. A plot twist called King of the Sea that requires you to have an Aquaman in play. I would say this:
    King of the Sea
    Plot Twist
    Cost: 3
Play only if you control Aquaman.
Return target card from your KO’d pile to your hand.

  10. Oh, and flavor text could be something like:
“When you control where trash is dumped, you can get a lot of neat stuff”
    or:
“Sharks, get me my lunch! Dolphins, get me my Nintendo DS! Whales, get me my house! Octopus, remove this wart on my foot!”
    or more seriously:
Being able to control the animals in the sea, Aquaman can have them bring him anything from the ocean.

  11. daemyann

lol….This’ll teach me not to stray too far from your blog….
    lol

    My guess is:
    “Telepathic Protection”
    4 cost.

To play, exhaust a character names Aquaman you control.
You may drop a whale onto your opponent.

“Not too noble to cheat anymore…”

  12. gdaybloke

Aside from generating a loathing for Spud for stealing my “Pony!” bit from our weekly Hobby League shenanigans…

    Aquatic Summons sounds about right.
    Submarine Summons?
    Deep Sea Defenders!

  13. It’s equipment, stamped to Aquaman. A sea pony mount.

  14. “A plot twist called King of the Sea that requires you to have an Aquaman in play. I would say this:
    King of the Sea
    Plot Twist
    Cost: 3
Play only if you control Aquaman.
Return target card from your KO’d pile to your hand.”

    Infinite loop for the win?

Target aquaman you control has +3ATK flight and range this turn and can attack hidden characters.

  15. gday, you get a prize too. I will even give you credit over on Realms.

And we can talk trade for that shirt there if you want.

    Back under water!

  16. Fine, it would say “Return target card not named King of the Sea from your KO’d pile to your hand.” or “Play only from your resource row.”

I know (or feel really sure) it is a plot twist, since it is the second of two cards you will be reviewing, and unless there are army characters that are fish (like a 2-drop Whale or something), I don’t know what else he could do. Maybe he fetches a character from your deck although it might not make as much sense in terms of how they have featured Aquaman before. Hmm…

  17. Ra's Al Cool

Plot twist or equipment stamped to Aquaman able to bring something back from the KO pile.

I presume it’s a really good card that I will never use because of my dislike of his super power: the ability to only smell of fish.

“Unless there are army characters that are fish (like a 2-drop Whale or something).”

Was that a guess, and how was it a guess when you know it’s a plot twist, and isn’t this grand?

  19. Spud said:

“It’s equipment, stamped to Aquaman. A sea pony mount.”

And then I rolled on the floor and laughed my ass off.

    PONY!

  20. It wasn’t a guess that there were fish army characters, although if you want it to be, it can be. The guess was more that it would search out those army fish if there were army fish since on the art, he is summoning fish. And, yes, I understand that there are dolphins and whales, which aren’t fish, but I am simplifying by just saying fish.

  21. Sounds fishy.

I like it, and it may actually be moving in the right direction.

  22. I'm not giving my name to a computer

Would likely be something to do with 1-drops, no?

  23. I'm not giving my name to a computer

hmmm, did it not post my comment? I don’t see it …

  24. I'm not giving my name to a computer

Argh! I can’t figure out how to get this blasted thing to post a comment.

Damn ‘puters. Always knew they were up to no good.

  25. Aquaman
    The Fish Dance

Exhaust Aquaman. Slap your opponent with your choice of: Mackarel/Herring/Haddock. Gain the Initiative.

  26. To the dude not giving his name to a computer,

The comments get held for moderation the first time you post. I had to unlock them when I got home. No, it is not (quite) a one drop.

    Thanks for posting!

  27. Wait a second, is this the first appearance of tokens in VS? Where you get some fish tokens or something? If so, then that is awesome as I have a MTG deck where (almost) all the creatures are saprolings, and I would love to build a token deck for VS.

  28. I have the saproling stuff too, alongside my squirrel deck obv.

No, it’s not tokens. Too bad.

    But… it’s almost that good!

  29. The name of the image appears to be ‘Water Magick’. This may be a red herring, but here’s an out-there guess:

    New keyword: Water-Affinity

Play Water Magick -> Turn all Water-Affinity cards in your KO’d pile into FishArmy cards and puts them into play exhausted.

  30. Fishling, Army
Cost – no cost, like supes.
    1/1
Recruit only if you control aquaman.

To recruit pay one resource point.

Activate -> return target fishling from your KO’d pile to your hand.

  31. With a bit over 24 hours left until the unveiling, we are getting a whole lot closer.

(“Water Magick” was the title I picked when I personally uploaded it. Totally red herring. Although it would be fantastic if they used Alec’s idea and called the keyword “Wet”.)

  32. All this fish talk makes me think of, well, this: http://www.intriguing.com/mp/_sounds/ml/fishgone.wav

I wonder where the fish has gone?

    Hmm…

  33. The art makes it look like a plot twist, I think. I like the name ‘Aquatic Summons’ from earlier in the thread.

    I’d say, cost 3 or 4. I’ll go with 4.

So, Aquaman’s thing is the KO’d pile. Seeing as to how he’s a legend, it’s gotta be pretty powerful.

Finally, Stu is absolutely loving it. There’s no cheesecake art there, and JLA don’t particularly have an army theme. Stu’s other loves? I don’t know. There’s Longshot. Digging/filtering, that sort of thing? That’s tough. Sorry Stu – don’t know you well enough to guess based on that.

    Aquatic Summons
    4
    To play, exhaust your Aquaman.
Put the top X cards of your deck into your KO’d pile, where X is Aquaman’s cost. If you do, return X cards from your KO’d pile to your hand.

Not the best idea. But, that’s all I’ve got, guess wise.

  34. You are correct about the cheesecake, but not the fishcakes.

Your assumption about the JLA is taking you in the wrong direction. At least for this one card.

  35. Go Fish
    3 Cost
    Plot-Twist

All Army-stamped cards gain the version “Fish”. Once per turn, you may recruit up to a cost of 3 “Fish” Army cards from your KO’d pile so long as Aquaman is in play and non-exhausted.

  36. Darn it, pressed Submit too early;

    addendum:

Similar to Batshido’s idea, but focuses on the KO pile instead of the deck.

  37. Man, I wish you guys were designing real cards.

It is nowhere near that complicated.

  38. SLEDGE

I think it’s a 1 cost plot twist. Either a searcher or KO’ed pile retrieval without a lot of extra costs. It’s pretty straight forward, with search, summon, call, or some other nifty finding/retrieval word as part of its name.

  39. Marine Control
    3 Cost
    Plot Twist

Discard a JLA card, search KO pile for JLA-Army cards up to the cost of the discarded card and place into hand.

  40. Flashback81

I won’t go and guess at a name, or a cost or anything, but I will take a stab at a plot twist effect.

Play only if you control Aquaman.
    To play, discard a card.
Return up to 2 Army character cards from your KO’d pile to your hand.

    OR

Play only if you control Aquaman.
    To play, discard a card.
Search your deck for an Army character card with a cost of 2 or less. Reveal that card and put it in your hand.

  41. Ra's Al Cool

    0 cost
    Aquaman’s Seahorsey
    equipment

Recruit only if you control aquaman.

Pay 0 -> return target card from your KO pile to your hand.

    Flavor text: Something smells fishy.

  42. Well, it also could be +1/+1 counter related based off od previous things from the JLA set (Counterstrike, Atlantean Trident etc). Although I guess it probably is an army-related card based off of the statement, “Your assumption about the JLA is taking you in the wrong direction. At least for this one card.” in regards to the statement, “JLA don’t particularly have an army theme”.

Since I am guessing it is an army theme and an Aquaman legend card, most likely, I would think that it is something that either gets army cards from the KO’d pile or from your deck and puts them into play, summoning the creatures of the deep.

Eh, I guess I’ll see tomorrow.

  43. It’s up on the mothership, and it looks to me like poppythecat was closest.

Captain Spud and gdaybloke get prizes too, send me your snail mail and Infinite Crisis want list to rianfike@hattch.com.

Thanks, everyone. That was a party.

  44. Damn, and I said a 2-drop army character too, just randomly. Oh well. I think that it is bizarre, as it is an Aquaman legend card, although it is an unaffiliated character, and it fits into where the JLA are on the checklist. Very interesting. Nice article!
