Thursday Thirteen: Protected By Angels?

SpaceBears

(Space Bears by Juvaun Kirby, from Upper Deck’s Vs. System)

I swear there are forces outside me that are guiding my shoes to step in EXACTLY the right piles.  And then I figure that my self is probably big enough to absorb everything outside of me anyway.  So I scamper off in my mind and discover a whole new corner.  I absolutely adore new explanations of life and how to live it.  Yesterday I saw a bumper sticker that said “Protected by Angels”.  I know the feeling.  Today, again on the way to work, the exact same car was stopped in front of me at a red light.  Sixty seconds earlier or later, and I would have not gotten the same synchronicity.  So I decided to jot down thirteen explanations for the phenomenon.

  1. Angels are formed by swirly vortexes of luck.  Being in the right place at the right time is a skill, if you can follow the invisible connections that join every thing to every other thing.
  2. We have spaghetti straps of love stuck to our shoulders.  This is a little bit like karma.  Everyone who is thinking good thoughts about you is sending you good vibes.  If you build up enough of this positive energy around your head, you will turn to look just in time to see the perfect thing.
  3. Desire attracts.  There is a very interesting theory that we always get what we really want.  Your deepest desires have much more chance of happening, since you want them so bad.  Not many people can understand that, since they don’t really know what they really want.
  4. This is God’s ant farm.  Who knows?  I tend to think we are all wrong, so this one has as good a chance as any.
  5. There is no spoon.  You are a brain in a jar in my lab.  There is no way you can prove to me that you are not.  When you feel angels protecting you, you are having a real good trip.
  6. Our selves play dominoes all over the place.  Like, if there are parallel universes created from the temporal branches proceeding from each moment, then the wings are created by all my other possible actions.
  7. Some people just can’t let go.  Maybe the whole ghost thing happens when someone is too attached to the human with all its exquisite beauty.  Many cultures have believed it, so there has got to be something to it.
  8. The human brain can create its own reality.  We cannot escape the images of the angel in this culture.  The pictures are everywhere.  What we see is what we get.
  9. Rationalization is fun.  Saying “I accidentally stepped out of the way at just the right time” is fairly boring.
  10. Space Bears!  That’s right.  You knew it was coming.  Aliens.  They are everywhere, and when they are not conducting their pointless probing experiments, they are angels.
  11. Animal totems ROCK!  I have merged with squirrels.  Maybe the angels are human/bird hybrids who were really curious about the sensation of flight.
  12. There is a war in heaven.  Tom Robbins had the best version of this in his masterpiece called Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates.  He talked about the neutral angels.  Some of the funniest profound prose ever.
  13. I am an angel myself, and we protect our own.  It always feels good to belong to an exclusive club.  Whatever feelings make you feel best, those are the feelings you should practice.  Give yourself permission to choose the explanation of life that serves up the most bliss inside your little angel heart.  You’ll be glad you did, whether it is “true” or not.

Now you know where angels come from.  As soon as you come down from the heights of inspiration, write your own list of thirteen things you like to groove on and link them here: www.thursdaythirteen.com

  1. LOL. Funny list. Mine is animal books this week. Happy TT.

  2. This is all very interesting! Cool idea for TT!

  3. Exactly. I agree with you 100%. Excellent. Have a great TT. 🙂

  4. I really like the beginning of # 4…This IS God. have a grand TT.

  5. Life seems to be full of the sort of coincidences that writers would never get away with in fiction. I really like the header graphic.

  6. What a gr8 post! Adore angels, no matter how they’re presented. Beautiful – mine’s up 🙂

  7. Our minds do create and recreate our realities, and we do attract that which we most want. And there is so much we just don’t know, so why not embrace the possibilities? You’re right on!

  8. Ellen

I’m pretty much confused but that’s not new to me…Happy TT…

  9. I love angels in whatever shape or form they may come! :o)

  10. Some interesting concepts. I believe that I make my guardian angel work overtime some days.

  11. You know, I’ve never given it too much thought. It’s one of those things that, since it can’t be proven, I’m sort of scared to speculate about, lest I irritate or offend by speculating along the wrong lines.

  12. cricket51

    Interesting! Very interesting.

  13. Man Rian, I’d love to take you to lunch. You and I have so many similar experiences. Even though I have had a lot of challenges in my life, I have always considered myself very lucky as I survived and overcame.

My dh says that traveling with me is amazing – every time we are lost, in trouble or need a person, someone is miraculously there. Like we were super duper lost on the Colorado Trail, hadn’t seen another person in almost 3 days and low and behold, a couple “just decided” to take a day hike. They, along with the guy who just decided to take a drive up this road (and pick us up), saved our butts. Amazing.

    Great post! Happy TT!

  14. It is an interesting list, that’s for sure.

I’m glad to see most people understood this. Personally I feel just like Ellen does. I’m guessing this isn’t really about angels??? But if it is and you’re interested, I’ve blogged about guardian angels too (10/02/07).
    Wishing you a happy Thursday!

  16. Bonus points for originality 😉

  17. What a lovely thought that an angel is watching over you like Clarence watching over James Stewart’s character in “It’s a Wonderful Life”! Sure could make you sleep better at night, huh??
    Great TT!

  18. “spaghetti straps of love” — how poetic!

  19. I am really enjoying your lists (and your blog as a whole). Yours was my first visit both last week and today. I look forward to more in the future!

  20. mo

What an original and highly intriguing list! Lots of fun; thanks for that moment of ‘contemplation’!

  21. I really liked this list! It was very interesting! #2 is my favorite one. 😀

  22. that was a really interesting tt!! neat idea…fascinating, actually!
    have a great day!

  23. marnini

I collect angels-they were all given to me and represent the person who gave them to me. I love looking at them, it’s funny how they resemble the person who gave me them in some way.
    Maribeth
    I believe!

  24. #3 sounds like you’re describing the Law of Attraction. I tend to agree that if your purposefiully set your feet upon a certain path, it will inevitably take you to where it leads. Interesting and thoughtful list.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Attraction)

  25. Boy, does #3 resonate with me! 🙂

    Great list!

  26. Congrats on being selected as a featured site today! Happy Thursday!

  27. geekbetty

there’s actually a whole philosophical debate based on #8!

  28. Are there kinky angels? I’d like to think so just to know I’m not scandalizing the angel/alien/hybrid/thoughtform/alternate self/tangible intangible, that’s stuck watching over me. 🙂

    ~X

  29. You are not scandalizing, you are entertaining!

  30. I love this list – especially your reference to the brain in the jar & the whole Matrix bit.

I think I had a brief, shining flashback of my philosophy class in college…

    Have an excellent Thursday. 🙂

  31. Interesting theories! And great idea for a TT post. 🙂

  32. Fantastic list, Rian. I’m partial to #5, but I sincerely hope it’s rather #2 and/or #13.

  33. Absolutely perfect week for you to be the featured T13er… I love this list, I chuckled, and I connected.

    Space Bears… cool!

    My list is up.

  34. adamswife

Interesting list, and probably as accurate as any other commonly (or uncommonly) accepted theories on angels. This is only my second week at T13. You’ll find my list of Good Things here.

  35. interesting list. Though I don’t agree with them, I enjoy looking at others perspectives. ;0)

    Blessings,
    Karla

  36. I wanna be an angel too!

    Wasn’t Michael a warrior?

    Ghosts…why not?

I always figured we were in a snow globe on God’s shelf.

And God help me if I ever get what I truly desire!

In a universe this vast…are we truly the only ‘intelligent’ (I use that phrase sparingly) life out there? Scary to think of aliens, scary to think that we’re ‘it’ too!

    Have a great one!

    ~Harris.

  37. By far the most intriguing TT today!

14… they could just be actual angels — you know, messengers of God. You never know…

  38. I agree. They very well could be.

  39. That makes as much sense as any other theory I’ve heard, and more sense than most.
If I’m going to be in a jar, can I have one with a view?

  40. vixensden

What a brilliant list. I too liked the “spaghetti straps of love’, it created a wonderful visual in my mind. And X and her ‘kinky angels’, she cracks me up.

Congrats on being the featured TT, you certainly deserved it with this post!

  41. Thought provoking. Happy TT! And thanks for visiting!

  42. I believe in angels. But as an SF/F fan and writer, I also adore some of those theories. Great list. And cool blog!

  43. I love the artwork. Just love it. And I like how your mind works. #’s 2, 5, and 11 are my favorites.

Oh and my TT is up today too.

    Hope you will come visit!

    Sleeping Mommy’s TT

  44. As a “new age-y” type of person – this one was fun. I always KNEW I was playing dominoes somewhere….

I like angels and one of my favorite things recently was watching a Living Statue performance at a Christmas Light Festival. I also have a small framed poster thanking the Angels on my Reiki corner.

    Happy TT-13!

    Smiles,

    Holly

  45. I tend to think of angels in the Sandman or Hellblazer concepts.

  46. I love it…”There is No Spoon” I need to keep that one handy. I mean I constantly reference Deja Vu sensations as a Glitch in the Matrix….

Thanks for stopping by my 13!

  47. Very interesting posts. I like your site!

  48. Di

Despite any difficulties I have experienced in my life, I still feel that I have angels with me. I believe that the angel in me makes me do good things for others… and brings good things back to me!

  49. cindyswanson1

I definitely believe in angels! The Bible talks about them frequently. I think we have guardian angels.

Hmm… this makes me think of the old Amy Grant song, “Angels Watching Over Me”.

  50. Oh yeah! We love us some Amy Grant.

  51. Administrator

I too believe in angels and while some of your list is intriguing, I’m a bit confused on other parts of it. I don’t believe in “luck”, I believe whatever happens, happens for a reason and if we are spending time with God, and allowing Him to orchestrate our lives we can take whatever comes along and be blessed in the process. Thanks for an interesting and thought provoking list, congrats on being selected as a featured TT and thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Take care, God bless and may He give His angels charge to watch over and protect you.
    Briggie ^i^

  52. First time visiting you, fullbody! Where have you been all my blogging life? Your stuff is incredible! Thanks for commenting at my blog…I’ll be back!

  53. I like to read a Thursday Thirteen once in a while that leaves me utterly lost.

    Congratulations!

    Cindi

  54. Very interesting concepts/theories. It’s been a worthwhile read. Thank you for visiting.

  55. Excellent list. I think I’ll have to go with Space Bears. It just sounds cool.

    Happy TT!

  56. My animal totem is a dragon, whether they exist or not. 🙂

  57. Wow. 🙂

    I’m going with #2 or #7 … #1 requires too much skill 😉

  58. I’m going with #6 because I think I have been watching too much Dr Who recently.

I’m a bit of a reductionist in all of this – I’m not into angels – a bit of Goddess lore yes – but more into energy. I tend to explain everything in terms of energy and synchronicity.

This was very thought provoking – I’ll be stopping by again!

  59. Once we understand that we are free to choose our own bliss, anything is possible. The best part is, my explanations don’t have to match anyone else’s. It’s my reality baby.

    There is no spoon indeed.

    Great TT!

  60. I’m not sure if I believe in angels, but I do have a mother-in-law who is a nun. I believe she is a messenger.

thanks for stopping by last week. This week I have a Reverse Psychology edition posted.

  61. JO

    I believe in angels…

    thanks for visiting my TT.

  62. Weird. I don’t believe in luck or coincidence. I do believe in angels. Interesting T13. Thanks for visiting mine.

  63. Must be that warm Miami air that clears your mind for such thoughts. Very cool TT list. Thanks for your comment.

  64. I think I like number 5. Hilarious. Quite creative! And perhaps #6 is true? It could happen!

  65. We probably create them into being just by believing they exist. The devil made me say that.

  66. And you made me laugh out loud! Thanks.

  67. that was beautiful. you know I had a friend that was visiting somebody in the hospital, and had a massive heart attack right in front of the nurses’ station, it would have killed him had he been anywhere else. the guy is an atheist but admitted that he must be ‘protected by angels’

  68. autumndragyn

I’m in love with this post, and am tempted to propose marriage to it.

For the record, my vote is with the space bears.

  69. Looks like you struck a nerve with this T-13. I’ve long believed angels hover … and sometimes even run interference for me as in a football game. I love your list! Thanks for sharing and for visiting MY T-13 this week. I’m having trouble keeping up with everything now that the Australian Open is going strong because I’m a tennis fan.
    Hugs and blessings,
